Stoker

Is this not the best movie you’ve seen in a while!?  Just say yes!

With a partner who likes your average block-buster/super-hero type action movies , it becomes a little difficult to watch art-house movies of this kind without feeling a little guilty (” What the hell is this? Where are the explosions? ” ).

I got very lucky with the name. Well into the first 40 minutes my partner realised that this was not a vampire action thriller, but it was too late.

I don’t even know where to start!

The cinematography is beautiful. Almost every frame could be a photograph, and the music compliments it so well. If you’re like me and you like to google your movies before or after watching to see the synopsis, please don’t do it with this movie! It has been described as a ‘drama’ about India Stoker and her mysterious uncle who has ‘ulterior motives’ . This can’t be further from what really goes on.

I suppose it will mean something different to everyone but to me it was a story of family, love and seduction (Yes, yes he’s her uncle but that’s what makes it so interesting!).

The characters are played faultlessly by Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode and Nicole Kidman and the moments they don’t say a word are the best.

You just have to see it. This review will do it no justice.
