Thor 2 : The Dark World

Readers!

Loki1-92T

This was so good!! Those that know me personally will know I have been waiting for this since, roughly, April 2011 ( not that I was counting).

If you haven’t been following this since April 2011, and I suspect this is highly likely, Thor 2 is really the sequel to the Avengers more than it is to Thor 1. Quick summary:

Loki is cast out of Asgard (Thor 1)  -> decides he will try to rule earth instead (the Avengers) -> and after failing at this, he is brought back to Asgard as a prisoner (Thor 2).

A huge fan of the first movie, I was a little disappointed that Kenneth Branagh withdrew from directing the sequel and I was even more nervous that his direction in the first place was what made the first piece so memorable. To an extent, this is true. I loved the first movie for its’ wit and dialogue and there were very few big fight scenes, yet it still managed to retain its’ ‘super-hero’ movie status.

To my surprise though, Alan Taylor (director of Thor 2) did well. It is definitely bigger and bolder with graphics, like you would expect with sequels. But mostly it just has a brilliant cast of supporting actors that pull it all together. I am biased of course because I think Tom Hiddleston is a genius. Don’t bother yourself with his big screen movies. Go and see his plays or something smaller ( If you can get seats to any of them that is.. Coriolanus is already sold out believe me I tried).

I won’t say more honestly you just need to see it for yourself and I won’t spoil the surprises (there are many).

Go ! Go now!

Gone with the wind.

IMG_1615

Morning readers!

A short and quick one today to say I hope you are all keeping safe. Why? Because of the wind that’s why.  Here are some things which have disappeared from our neighbourhood due to the severe ‘gusts’ :

– all the animals.

– part of a roof , a couple of houses away (although admittedly it was the tree which fell on it that caused this, not the gust ).

– a ladies’ dignity along with her skirt.

– a small child’s squeaky toy (thank goodness).

Along with some missing items, in true London fashion all trains and buses have been cancelled due to the wind. This also bizzarely includes the London underground, which operates under the ground.

Keep safe people. It’s apparently serious.

Face – Off : a beauty review as told by the faces of Nicolas Cage

Well hello.

We have a lot to talk about.

all

When my mom and I bought these a week ago, we were in search of a moisturiser that would be our force-field through winter. The kind of force-field you might see on Independence Day or Star Trek. A bullet-proof, torpedo-proof barrier for the skin.

What we were offered was Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate and a selection of creams from their Rose Arctica range. The creams contain Resurrection Flower extracts… This is apparently a plant that can go without water for over 30 DAYS. Naturally this was our reaction :

nic cage

After many other words like ‘restructuring’, ‘rejuvenation’ were mentioned , we were sold.

All of the creams also promised results in 7 days, which as you all know is a lie (although I am sure there is a little part of you that always makes a mental note of Day 7 from the date of purchase).

Well… It works. From Day 1.

The Midnight recovery oil is used each night (two drops really is enough) and acts as a base for the cream. For the past 7 days my husband has mentioned I have an oily-sheen on my face. I prefer the term ‘dewy’ or ‘glowing’ (he’s just not clued up on the correct term). My mom has reported similar results with others asking if she had anything ‘done’ to her face. Result!

The Rose Arctica face and eye cream are equally good and last from morning till night. I’m making my way through a sample sized tub of the cream and it is nowhere near finished.

A handy tip we got from fellow bloggers is that Kiehls will hand out samples of the creams and oils free of charge!

I intend to go to every Kiehls store in London squirrelling away these little samples for as long as is feasible or legal.

Here’s to a new face!

Stopping for a second.

Hello everyone,

It’s been a busy few weeks in Review Me Vee land. I graduated (yay!), have started settling in to the new job (slightly smaller yay) , and have collected some more fine places for you to visit (crowd goes wild). So if you’re also having a busy few weeks, here’s where to go to

STOP.

Hammer time.

Harris and Hoole, somewhere in North Finchley. So hip you can't tell who works there and who doesn't.

The Four Corners cafe in Waterloo. Take a photo of yourself with their loyalty card at any of their branches all over the world. Bring back the photo to your local branch and get a free lunch! Don't be fooled by how easy this sounds, you still have to pay for your plane tickets to their other branches.

Caffe Vergnano 1882. Apparently this is the oldest hot chocolate recipe in the world. It is also the most alcoholic. Lot of rum.

The Pantry in Wandsworth Town. Good for food. Bad for being alone. If you like your lunch with a side of Random Stranger; this is the place to go.

The Church pub in Muswell Hill. Probably not somewhere you can truly relax but a great looking place nonetheless.

Here’s to more busy-ness 🙂

Movie to miss, movie to see

Hello readers,

Yoga didn’t quite happen yesterday. I cancelled it and replaced it with a ‘beginners’ spin class  (where ‘beginners’ is code for ‘ not at all beginners’ ). I’m not sure what exactly spurred us on to do this but we have now been to the gym 7 days in a row since we signed up. Here’s hoping it will last, maybe not quite at the same pace but consistency is key.

Somewhere in-between zumba-ing, running, spinning and swimming, this happened:

runner-runner-newposter

I’m pretty sure I fell asleep at one point. The typical story of a young kid (Justin Timberlake) who gets roped in to the big bad world of (in this instance) gambling. His boss (Ben Affleck) pulls him in to the business subtly at first and then !BOOM! people are being beaten up and eaten by crocodiles. Separately of course; the crocodiles are not the ones doing the beating up. Give this one a miss, but instead replace it with this:

It’s excellent. I have a particular soft spot for psychological/ investigative thrillers but have high hopes this movie will go far , Oscar rumours are already starting.

Have a great weekend folks!
